If you own an older HPC Fire Hot Wire Ignition (HWI) system, you’ve likely run into a wall recently. While the HWI systems themselves were discontinued years ago, replacement parts and the popular HWI-913 repair kits remained available as a lifeline—until early 2023.
At that point, the third-party manufacturer of the specific hot-wire igniter and repair kit ceased production. This left owners with a “dead” system and a costly dilemma: spend upwards of $2,200 for a replacement ignition system, or even more for a replacement electronic fire pit kit, including the pan & burner.
A Smarter Engineering Solution
Recognizing the need for a more affordable alternative, HPC Fire developed a technical workaround in early 2025: the HWI to EI Conversion Kit.
Instead of trying to find a discontinued part that no longer exists, this kit adapts the system to use modern, readily available components. It focuses strictly on the hardware that fails, the electronic module, and the igniter, an integral component of the pilot assembly.
By retaining your existing valve box and internal plumbing, you bring the unit up to 2025 Electronic Ignition (EI) specs for $875.96 (price at the time of publication).
Compatibility Check
Before you commit to the repair, verify your pan style. This retrofit is compatible with the HWI Ignition Fire Pit Kits featuring round and square pans, as well as rectangular models fitted with H-Burners.
Important Fact: This kit is not compatible with HPC Troughs or Interlink Fire Pit Pans. If you have these specific models, a full system upgrade remains the only viable path.
You will need the gas type (Natural Gas or Propane) and the BTU range of your existing system. This info can be found on the specification plate on your HWI valve box. Once you have these details, you can select the appropriate Conversion Kit.
