What Is a Flame Sensing Ignition System?

Flame Sensing Ignition uses a battery-powered, push-button spark ignition to light the fire pit. However, it is a much more sophisticated system than the basic ‘ Spark Ignition Kits ‘

The ignition systems light the flame with rapid ignition.

The thermocouple is the ‘flame sensor’ and monitors the presence of a flame. Should the flame extinguish, then the system automatically shuts off the gas flow, which helps prevent the build-up of a dangerous gas cloud.

 

From a user’s perspective, to turn on your fire pit, just turn the control knob and push the button.

The system is straightforward to install. The tray and burner are connected to the control panel at the factory. These are ideal systems for a DIY project, easy to install, and provide the highest level of safety available.

These Linear Drop-In Pans with Flame Sensing Kit are available in five sizes, 30, 36, 48, 60, and 72 inches long x 6 inches wide. The Stainless Steel burner is pre-installed in the pan at the factory.

Drilling the gas holes into the burner, as American Fireglass does, ensures there is a smooth flow of gas out of the port, which creates a bigger and better flame. Punching the holes leaves a burr on the inside, interrupting the smooth flow of gas.

The Drop-In Pan has a generous 1 1/4-inch lip or flange around the recessed pan, making installation simple.

The pan ‘drops’ into the cutout created in the top surface of your fire pit structure and sits securely on the flange, making an attractive ‘framing’ around the fire pit tray circumference.

By creating a false bottom, the pan reduces the amount of fire glass needed and very neatly hides all the ugly plumbing out of sight.

Over time dust and dirt deposits on your fire pit and you may notice that the fire glass has lost a little of its shine.

Cleaning your fire glass is very easy. Just wash with a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar, rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry. Gently place the glass back in the tray.

Investing in a fire pit lid will reduce cleaning frequency and also protect your fire pit pan and ignition system from the elements.

The lids are designed to fit within the corresponding wind guard and can be installed and removed without removing the wind guard.
