Lava rocks provide a rustic, earthy aesthetic, yet sits very well in both contemporary and traditional settings alike!
Naturally occurring, it is formed as volcanic magma rises to the surface, cools, and releases gases which gives these rocks their coarse surface. Because they are volcanic, they can withstand extremely high temperatures without sustaining any damage or crumbling.
PLEASE NOTE: The lava rock varies in color from brown to black, this is normal.

Measures on average 3″ – 6″
Due to the chunk size of the Extra Large option, there may only be a few pieces per bag. The Bag however will still weigh 10lbs.
We recommend using the smaller sizes as a base for the Extra Large Sized Rock!

How much do I need?
The easiest way to find out is by using our Fire Glass & Lava Rock Calculators. You can find the link at the bottom of the page. Measure your fire pit burn area in accordance with the detailed instructions, and input the data into the calculator. The result will provide you with the quantity (lbs) required.
Make sure you set the calculator for lava rock! As a rule of thumb, it is twice the volume per pound as fire glass. So you do not want to end up buying double your needs!
Yet another great reason to use it as a filler under your fire glass or Lava Stones, it is easier on the budget!
How to use Lava Rock
It may be used on its own in a fireplace or fire pit but may also be used as a base or filler for ornaments or other media such as Fire Glass or Fire Stones.
Whichever way they are used, the resulting effect is truly fascinating.

When used with an American Fire Glass fire pit burner, their recommendation is pouring a minimum depth of two inches over your burner, enabling the gas to permeate evenly throughout the fire media.
