How does it Work?

The HPC Match Lit Round Flat Insert Torpedo Penta Burner once installed is remarkably easy to use.

Lighting: Hold a long stem taper or lighter over the edge of the Torpedo Burner, then slowly open the key valve (the key is locked in the valve when the gas is open and can only be removed when in the off position).
Flame Adjustment: The flame height can be easily adjusted by turning the key, anti-clockwise increases the flame, and clockwise will reduce the flame.
Turning Off: To shut down the fire pit, turn the key clockwise to the Off position, and remove the key. With the key removed, the gas can not be turned on.

The HPC Match Lit Round Flat Insert Torpedo Penta Burner unit comes fully assembled and ready to install. These Fire Pit kits comprise of a Stainless Steel Round Flat Insert, Torpedo Penta Burner, Chrome Valve mounting bracket, Key Valve, Chrome Key and flex line connection.

HPC Round Flat Inserts are a little more economical than the bowl style pan and are used in fire pit structures with a built-in support structure to hold the insert in place.  Support for the flat pan, typically, takes the form of a collar around the inner parameter of the enclosure, ‘Z’ brackets, or a built-in shelf or recess.

Any type of media can be used with a flat pan including glass, but the gap between the edge of the pan and the opening must be within a 1/8” to keep the glass from falling below the pan, so the larger the pieces of media the better for a flat pan. HPC flat pans are cut ¼” smaller than the listed size. For example, the 36” flat pans measure 35-3/4”.

Each flat pan is cut out to size from a sheet of 18 guage .304 stainless steel and has  ¼” weep holes for drainage.

• Water infiltration into the burner and then running back through the gas lines is a significant issue. Both HPC Standard Burners and Torpedo Burners deal with this in several ways. Each of the five-burner lobes has weep holes allowing any water that got in to drain out of the burner before it flows back into the gas lines. The center hub of the burner is raised and sealed to prevent water from leaking into the burner.
• Spiders, yes spiders! Spiders are attracted to the smell of Propane and build nests in and around Propane gas fittings, often creating a blockage. As a result, on all CSA Certified Kits, HPC supply a mesh spider guard to prevent the spiders from building their nests and creating a blockage.
